Digitization, Digitization Project Management and Digital Archiving: A Workshop for Librarians
on
24th – 28th November, 2014
at
Central Library, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi – 110067
About the Workshop

Libraries everywhere are digitizing books, magazines, newspapers, audio and video tapes, etc. Why? Primarily to provide easier access via the Internet to a broader audience. Secondarily, and especially for fragile and decaying materials, to preserve them.
Digitisation is rather new with respect to the library world: It is not yet 20 years old whereas library science is thousands of years old. Because of its newness and because the technologies used in digitisation, access, and preservation change very rapidly, digitisation is not without its pitfalls. This workshop will provide a foundation for librarians who must decide what technologies and digital formats to use for their current or future digitisation projects and programmes.
Digital archives are developed to organize and preserve digitized material; and to provide easier access to them. DSpace open source software is a turnkey repository application used by more than 1000+ organizations and institutions worldwide to provide durable access to digital resources.
The workshop is intended to equip participants with in-depth knowledge and skills for creation of Digital Archives. There will be interactive lectures on various aspects both administrative and technical related to creation of digital archive; also, there will be intensive hands-on training sessions on DSpace by the experts in the field.
