International Conference on Digital Libraries (ICDL 2013) New Delhi, 27-29 November 2013


The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is organizing International
Conference on Digital libraries (ICDL 2013) during 27-29 November 2013 at
New Delhi. The conference will also aim at further strengthen the academic
collaboration and strategic alliance in development of DL in the world.
Theme of the conference is “Vision 2020: Looking back 10 years and forging
new frontiers.”


In recent past TERI had organized three major ICDL conferences during 2004,
2006 and 2010 which were proved to be useful tools to bridge digital divide
between developed and developing countries. It was able to create awareness
and enthusiasm among the community.

Aim:
ICDL 2013 is expected to be a major forum focusing on digital libraries and related technologies and issues. This conference would facilitate exchange of ideas and experiences to bridge knowledge gaps in these areas and sustain the knowledge thus gained. It is expected to become a platform to bring together a galaxy of experts, researchers, academics, students, and others.


Who should participate?
The conference participants will be drawn from researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy makers from a variety of disciplines.  About 600 participants are expected to participate in the conference. The following categories of professionals are expected to benefit from the conference:


   -Library and Information Science professionals.
   -Policy makers.
   -Educationists, Museologists, Archivists.
   -Content and knowledge managers.
   -Electronic publishing and virtual electronic communities.
   -All stakeholders in the digitization and knowledge business.

PhD in LISc : TISS Mumbai Admission Notification 2013

Dear Professionals,

Greetings!

Center for Library and Information Management Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences ,Mumbai is happy
to announce the admission call for PhD in Library and Information Science.

Selected candidates can pursue Ph.D. either by staying on TISS campus or off campus. During the first year, it is essential to fulfill course work requirement by attending the Four Modular Workshops of 5 days each duration, once in every quarter. This is a compulsory requirement.

TISS does not make any distinction among research scholars as full time and part time. All selected candidates are required to fulfill the programme requirements as defined.

Some Possible areas of research are: Knowledge Society, Information Access and Services, Information Organization, e-resources, Digitization,
Digital Library, Information and Digital Literacy, and other emerging areas in the discipline of LISc

National Conference on “Libraries: Towards Digital Paradigm” on 24th February 2013 at Lucknow, (U.P.)

Dear Professional Colleague,
Society for Promotion of Libraries (SPL), Uttar Pradesh In Collaboration with Society for Library Professionals (SLP), New Delhi and Society for Promotion of Environment, Education and Development (SPEED), Mahoba.  is organizing a National Conference on “Libraries: Towards Digital Paradigm” on 24th February 2013 at Ravindralaya, Charbagh, Lucknow, (U.P.) India. The purpose of the conference is to have exchange ideas of Libraries towards digital paradigm by emerging trends and technologies which are puzzling the LIS community both in application and academia. It is with a deep sense of shock and sorrow we inform you the sad demise of Prof. M.A. Gopinath, former Professor and Head, Documentation Research & Training Centre and Member-Secretary, Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science, on Sunday, 10th February 2013 at about 12.00 Noon following a Cardiac arrest.

DLINE AWARDS 2013


About the Award

DLINE Incorporation, 
UK and India, the publisher of the collection of international journals in Science and Technology, and the Society for Information Organization in UK seek potential research projects with sound themes for the 2013 
DLINE Outstanding Research Awards.

Award-winning entries will receive a cash prize of $500 (or currency equivalent), a certificate, a winners' logo to attach to correspondence and the opportunity of publication in the DLINE  journal - either as a full paper or a short paper.

The DLINE Award recognizes library and information science researchers who have made 
extensive and innovative contribution in the library and information science domain. Two prizes will be awarded in 2013.

Eligibility

  • Library and Information Professionals from Third world countries who are currently employed in any recognised library are eligible to apply.
  • There is no age limit to the award.
  • Submissions must be related to the library and information science domain research.
  • Both individuals and project teams may submit an application. Any awards to project team submissions will be divided equally among the members.
  • Each student or project team may submit only one paper/project per award.
  • Applicants must agree to have winning proposal featured on the library website and archived in the DLINE Repository.

The application deadline will be April 15, 2013.  

Application Process

An application consists of the following: A proposal (maximum of 1000 words) which describes in detail the research strategy and the plan to do a piece of  research (in any format).  The proposals should be descriptive about the method the applicants like to use in the research process. Proposals for theoretical and survey research are strongly discouraged. The proposals should reflect innovativeness and methodological increments.

The Content of the Proposal

The proposal should clearly provide the aim and scope of the research including the description of the method, purpose, experiments, outcome and how the results will contribute to the domain. The proposals with theory or case studies are not supported in the award. The proposal need not at provide any data, but indicate what types of data will be given in the paper. The authors of the selected proposals will be asked to submit the final research study in the form of a full paper. Hence the proposal can be more descriptive but without any data or analysis.

 Evaluation Criteria
The selection of the winner(s) of the award will be based primarily on the reviewers’ evaluation of how well the proposal demonstrates the following criteria:

  • Extensive and innovative plan in library and information science domain.
  • Evidence of significance in the research plan and inquiry that shows the strategy for the future.
  • Language and presentation
  • Originality in themes
