This position performs professional, managerial and administrative work in directing operations and activities of the Library, including Circulation Services, Reference Services, Technical Services, and Childrens Services. 
Oversees/coordinates library programs, management and maintenance of library collections, operation/maintenance of computerized library circulation system, performs public relations functions promoting the library and library services. 

The Director of Library is under the general supervision of the Assistant City Administrator. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates the daily work activities of assigned staff. Recruits volunteer workers. 
- Consults with City Administrator, City Council, and other officials to review department operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations. 
- Performs administrative functions associated with library operations; develops and implements library budget; monitors and approves expenditures; identifies fundraising opportunities for Friends of Library; develops and implements long and short term goals, plans, and objectives; develops, updates, and implements policies and procedures; prepares monthly/annual statistical reports. 
- Oversees/coordinates library programs and activities; schedules speakers for adult programs. 
- Oversees management and maintenance of library collections, including inventory counts, resource materials, selection of materials to be added to collection. 
- Oversees operation/maintenance of computerized library circulation system. 
- Performs public relations functions; promotes the library and library services; gives speeches and presentations to civic groups and community organizations; conducts library tours; prepares/distributes brochures and materials. 
- Attends city council meetings, department head meetings, Friends of Library meetings, Library Committee meetings, and other meetings. 
- Updates and/or provides data for library web site, catalog, Facebook page and blog. 
- Prepares and presents reports of City fiscal conditions to City Administrator, Mayor, and Council. 
- Performs various other related duties as required.

QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Masters degree in Library Science, Library & Information Science, or Library Administration, from a program accredited by the American Library Association; supplemented by seven (7) years previous public library experience at the professional level with at least four years of progressively responsible library administration and management experience; or
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must be eligible for and maintain valid Georgia Board of Librarians Certification.

Digital Initiatives Librarian
Georgia State University Library seeks an enthusiastic, collegial, self-starter to serve as the manager of theDigital Archive @ Georgia State University, the University’s institutional repository, which highlights the research and scholarly productivity of members of the University community. The University Library administers the archive to collect, organize, disseminate, and preserve the digital scholarly output of Georgia State University faculty, students and staff.  The repository is hosted on the Digital Commons platform and currently includes ETDs, conference materials and journals.
 The Digital Initiatives Librarian will be responsible for overseeing services related to the Library's institutional repository, including but not limited to:
  • Identifying and recruiting new content, and editing existing content as needed
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating marketing and promotion efforts
  • Providing support for the library’s scholarly communication activities
  • Raising awareness of Open Access to the GSU community
  • Providing Library and University faculty with information, training and assistance in depositing materials into the Archive, including establishing and maintaining Selected Works author pages
  • Analyzing policies, procedures and workflows to insure consistency and accuracy of metadata
  • Supporting established institutional repository guidelines, including submission rules and the development of new communities and series
  • Creating new guidelines as necessary
 This position reports to the Associate Dean for Collections.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with current trends and emerging issues regarding copyright, open access and scholarly communication as they relate to institutional repositories
  • Knowledge of current metadata schemas, standards, and digital content management systems
  • Coursework or experience resulting in knowledge of principles and practices governing institutional repositories
  • Academic library experience
  • Experience working directly with faculty at a research university
  • Ability to meet requirements for promotion
  • Ability to pass a background check
 PREFERRED:
  • Experience working with Digital Commons
  • Project management experience
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating marketing and promotion efforts
Salary and Rank
Minimum salary of $48,000 for 12 months.  Salary is commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience.  Appointment at a faculty rank, on a contract renewal basis.
