Hmar Students’ Association to set up libraries in Hmar Hills in Mizoram


Aizawl/Shillong (mizonews.net): The Hmar Students’ Association, General HQ’s Education Board has decided to set up village libraries in Hmar Hills from 2013. a  decision to this effect was taken during the board’s meeting on September 2 herein Shillong. The meeting was led by the board’s chairman Dr. John H. Pulamte and General HQ president Lalthlamuana Hmar also took part in the proceedings.
“HSA libraries will be set up in villages for the benefit of the student community and book lovers. The first such library will come up in Parbung village (in Hmar Hills in Manipur),” HSA statement said.

Now, hit the books at 256 libraries set for upgrade


Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday ordered upgradation of 96 village libraries as branch libraries and 160 part-time libraries as village libraries. To administer these upgraded libraries, 96 posts of Grade-III librarians and 160 posts of village librarians will be created.
The pay scale for the Grade III librarians will be Rs 5,200–20,000 with a grade pay of Rs 2,000, while the village librarians will get a special time pay scale of Rs 2,500- 5,000 with a grade pay of Rs 500.
The move will help students in particular, an official press release here said and recalled the view of former chief minister C N Annadurai on the importance of libraries: “Our people are particular about having separate rooms for performing poojas, cooking and sleeping. We can become truly enlightened people only when we are keen on having a separate room for reading too in our houses.”

Durgapur Steel Plant renovates library at Gopalpur village


Durgapur Steel Plant, under its corporate social responsibility programme, has constructed a new reading hall and renovated the existing one of the Mitali Sangha Rural Library at Gopalpur village near Durgapur. 
The renovated library was recently inaugurated by the company officials. 
According to a company release, the library is used by nearly 300 members from five adjoining villages.
Durgapur Steel Plant is a unit of SAIL Ltd.
